The August App-athon: 30 AI Apps in 30 Days

Imagine building a working application in just one hour.

That’s the challenge Andrew Ng set last week for developers with his new Buildathon set to take place on August 16.

“Historically, these products may have taken a team of 2 or 3 engineers weeks or months to build. But we hope participants will be able to build them in closer to 60 minutes.”

Andrew has been a guiding voice in AI for years and shaped how I think about data science and AI. He is someone we need to pay attention to in this moment, too.

So this August, I decided to run my own personal App-athon.

30 apps in 30 days. Well ok, 31 days.

Some will be practical. Some just for fun. I'm sure most (or all) will take far longer than an hour to build. All will be experiments in Generative Work, using AI not just to move fast, but also to strive to build thoughtfully, achieve novel outcomes, and learn through doing.

Grateful to have supportive partners like Austin Gerig who has agreed to help give me a friendly push to keep going when I need it.

Let’s see what emerges.
